Mucco-gingical surgery or periodontal plastic surgery
This type of surgery covers root surfaces that have become apparent or strengthens tissues that will not withstand the stresses of chewing, brushing or possible orthodontic treatment. It also makes it possible to modify unsightly volumes or positioning of the gingival contours.

Why cover a bare root?
A bare root has poor mechanical strength, which will eventually wear out over time and sometimes even decay.

In addition, since the root does not have enamel (insulating the dental crown), this area often becomes very sensitive to cold.
- Root coverage is possible under certain conditions to be defined during a careful examination by the periodontist.
- The grafting techniques were often perceived as painful before by the patients, nevertheless the new techniques made it possible to completely change this feeling (micro-surgery, special techniques of removal, realization of gutters of protection). On the other hand, these techniques are not very conceivable for the smoker, because they have very low success rates. It is essential to stop smoking while healing takes place.
