Brushing your teeth with braces

Good oral hygiene is a key factor in the success of orthodontic treatment. Clean, healthy teeth will optimize treatment and help prevent cavities and irreversible stains. On the other hand, poor hygiene will have a negative impact and lengthen the duration of treatment.
To maintain good oral hygiene, you should:
• brush your teeth after every meal.
• brush all surfaces of your teeth, including the tongue side.
• make sure the brush passes well over and under the archwire.
• use an interdental brush between each tooth and the wire.
Optimal hygiene with:

A fluoride toothpaste

A manual or electric toothbrush

An interdental brush

A 2 to 3 minute timing, which is about the length of a song.
