Post-Gingival Graft Recommendations
🩺 Treatment and Pain
• Follow the prescription you were given carefully.
• Pain is possible for about a week; it is normal and temporary.
🚭 Smoking
• Do not smoke: tobacco can delay healing and cause significant pain.
🍽 Diet
• Avoid hot foods and drinks for 24 hours.
• Eat soft foods for 2 to 3 days.
🩸 Bleeding
• On the first day, slight bleeding that turns saliva red is normal.
• Avoid rinsing vigorously or spitting.
• If bleeding is bothersome, bite down on a dry gauze pad placed on the area for 10 minutes, without talking.
❄ Edema (Swelling)
• Swelling of the cheek is common.
• Apply an ice pack to the cheek: 20 minutes of cold, 20 minutes of rest
◦ repeat several times on the day of the procedure and the following day.
• Talk as little as possible to avoid moving the operated area.
🟣 Bruising
• A bruise on the cheek or neck may appear in the days following the procedure.
• It is harmless and usually disappears within 8 to 10 days.
🪥 Oral Hygiene
• Perform mouth rinses starting the day after the procedure, after each meal or snack (including sweetened coffee).
◦ Let the product remain in contact with the operated area without moving it around.
• Continue regular brushing, avoiding the operated area.
