In certain situations, especially when the inflammation caused by the caries process is localized and affects only part of the pulp, it is possible to keep the tooth alive.

After removal of the carious lesion, the coronary restoration is performed using a biocompatible material that will induce healing of the pulp.

This is pulp capping.

The goal of pulp capping is to preserve the pulp of the tooth. Removing cavities with a microscope will preserve as much healthy tissue as possible. The pulp will then be capped with a specific material to keep it alive. The tooth will then be reconstructed by the attending dentist.

A complex technical platform is essential (microscope, microdentistry and microsurgery instruments, ultrasound, 3D scanner, etc.).

An endodontist is a dental surgeon who has acquired specific skills in endodontics and who works with a specific technical platform (apex locator, ultrasound, hot obturation system, 3D imaging, operating microscope, etc.) which allows him to treat complex cases. In certain clinical situations your practitioner may have to delegate treatment to a specialist. Endodontics is a specialty of dental surgery that treats diseases of the interior of the tooth and their complications.

Endodontic treatment is necessary when the pulp of a tooth is inflamed or infected. The causes are multiple: deep decay, ill-fitting crown, crack or fracture of the tooth, trauma, etc.

If the inflammation or infection is not treated, pain may develop or escalate to an abscess.

Endodontic treatment includes all the procedures allowing the elimination of the vasculo-nervous bundle, the shaping, the disinfection and the three-dimensional watertight obturation of the canal network according to a very precise protocol. To avoid any contamination of the tooth by bacteria in the oral cavity, an operating field (a dam) will be put in place during the treatment.

The tooth will then be permanently reconstituted by the treating practitioner.
